I collected from the chemist yesterday, a film that had been taken long ago, it turned out to be one from the summer, I flicked though these pictures with absolute horror as all those memorises of trying to hide my thighs and backside come flooding back. The pictures prove I have great need to worry. This year I am determined to be cellulite free!
Research tells us that eight of ten women in the U.K. have this horrible orange peel effect on there bodies, while it is good to know we are not alone we still want to get rid of it. Well if you start now you could have smooth, silky skin in time for the beach this summer I know you have heard it all before but these really are the only ways to rid us of that bane of our lives cellulite.
OK so it is not going to be easy, but lets face it, What is?When it comes to expelling cellulite from your body it is all about aiding your own lymphatic system; it is that system that rids our bodies of toxins. So whether it be what you eat or the creams you apply it is all about lymphatic drainage.
Firstly you have to start with your diet, sorry this cellulite stuff can’t be cured with just a bit of slap, if you really want it banished forever you have to put some welly in it! You need to be drinking at least 2 litres of water a day and that water has to be bottled or filtered, as tap water can contain pesticides and drugs like the pill which have not broken down which contain oestrogen’s or other substances like heavy metals and chlorine.
Then you need to have a little look at what you are eating, cut down or if possible totally exclude any processed foods as the have minimum nutrients and tend to have maximum salt and fat. Eat some of the wonder foods that not only feed the body but heal it too. Try wherever possible to eat organic because the food is pure and does not contain products that would compound the cellulite. So why not make a stir-fry with olive oil, shitake mushrooms lots of sliced veggies like broccoli and red peppers throw some ginger and garlic in and you have a low fat, low salts delicious wonder dish. You know you need to cut down on caffeine and alcohol. Try to live in moderation excess of anything is not good for you, so a couple cups of tea or coffee and the odd glass of wine is fine. If you really want to help your body rid itself of cellulite why not start drinking herbal teas instead, dandelion and nettle are excellent detoxifies, but I love the taste of fennel. Green tea is also so good for you; Whitards do some flavoured green teas which get rid of the bitterness you would normally experience. Now to the physical stuff, pots and potions. The first and best piece of ammunition you must purchase against the war on cellulite is a good natural bristle dry brush. You would use this in a sweeping motion towards the heart, do this just before you get in the shower. At the end of your shower, zap yourself from head to toe with freezing cold water, concentrating on your bottom and thighs. Sounds painful? Well this is a war you know!
If that all sounds a bit too much you can aid the body’s toxin-elimination process by dissolving 450g of Epsom salts into a warm bath and just lie back and relax.
Then using circular massaging strokes rub on some Phytomer Body Declic (£32 for 250ml) or Guinot Absolute Minceur (£35.for 200ml). If you are looking for something a little more affordable try Liz Earle Energizing body gel (£19.50 for 200ml) or for pure luxury go for Crème de la Mer Body Serum. Something to really warm up the area and get circulation going is Malti Heat Action anti-cellulite Gel (£35 for 200ml call 0207 229 3904)
There are also many treatments that can get you started on your anti-cellulite regime like massages or wrap treatments, why not try Decleor’s Marinalgues Massage with uses a plant-extract gel which incorporated with a manual lymphatic drainage helps the body release toxins. For totally smooth skin try Thalgo’s Micronised Marine Algae Body Wrap, from £35, includes a body scrub, you are then smothered in a warm sea-weed mask and wrapped in a thick electric blanket, inducing perspiration so you body sweats out toxins and releases excess fluid.
If though you really can not face the whole regime there is one treatment that really does work, it can be a little uncomfortable and costs a pretty penny but it totally rids you of cellulite. What is this miracle treatment? Mesotherapy. This is a homeopathic-based medical treatment, which contains vitamin B1, plant-extracts, vegetables, and minerals mixed with a local anaesthetic. Tiny injections of this mixture are injected into the cellulite or fatty tissues. You will need up to 8 treatments depending on how bad your cellulite is.
